Argyle Alfresco Activation, a winning submission to the City of Chicago’s innovative new Alfresco Program, launched in the summer of 2021 in the Uptown neighborhood. Through multilingual engagement, preferences were gauged amongst a diverse collection of family-owned small businesses.

Reflecting the feedback received, the corridor plans utilize existing parking lanes to feature expanded outdoor dining, shared seating zones and sidewalk sale areas. Colorful tables and chairs are spaced six feet apart to allow for adequate physical distancing, while generous pedestrian thoroughfare zones are provided for comfortable and safe circulation.

The activation engages community residents and businesses around a safe and healthy outdoor space while preserving the vitality of the local economy.
