Jeffery Pub is a Black-owned LGBTQIA+ bar on the South Side of Chicago. Originating in the 1960s to fill a cultural void on the south side, it endures as a historic beacon and haven for Black and Brown queer people. The unassuming exterior of black wooden slats and iron bars conceals a lively interior with a stage for karaoke and an inviting dance floor filled with multi-colored lights and pulsing beats.
Jeffery Pub has served the LGBTQIA+ community on the South Side of Chicago since the mid-’60s, making it one of the oldest gay bars in America.
