Located in the Washington Park neighborhood, Retreat at Currency Exchange Cafe allows residents to explore their culinary passions and hone their craft through artist Theaster Gates’s Rebuild Foundation. The program allows culinary talent from Chicago’s South Side to learn the ropes of their chosen disciplines — including cooking, coffee service, craft cocktail creation, and more in a real-world setting.
Retreat at Currency Exchange Cafe offers a chance for Black and Brown communities to be involved in reinventing Chicago's ever-changing small business scene by bringing together culinary experts and Chicago residents to offer somewhat of a home-like experience.
