Active in the late 1960's, the Black Panther Party (BPP) Spurgeon Jake Winters Free People’s Medical Care Center offered social services and patient advocacy in a remodeled storefront facility in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago. The medical center provided awareness of sickle-cell anemia and provided test for children and adults.
